Creswick Woollen Mills have developed Personal Protection Blankets with the CFA & RFS for over 20 years.
Over years of tireless research in conjunction with Fire Authorities, Creswick Woollen Mills have developed a world class safety product. The unique fabric blends high quality Australian Wool with Aramid, a specialised synthetic fibre with exceptional strength and heat resistance properties.
The CFA encourages those who drive in bushfire prone areas to keep a woollen blanket in their car. This is an essential precaution during the warmer months.
WHY ARE PERSONAL PROTECTION BLANKETS SO IMPORTANT?
- Protection from radiant heat
- Protection from ember attack
A personal protection blanket will help protect you from radiant heat. Radiant heat is the heat you feel from a fire and it’s the biggest killer in a fire.
Personal protection blankets will also help protect you from ember attacks, such as burning twigs, leaves and pieces of debris landing and catching fire.

DO I STILL NEED A PROTECTION BLANKET IF I LIVE IN THE INNER CITY OR URBAN AREAS?
You might be thinking it is not a necessary item and we’re hoping you never are in a situation where you need one. We believe it is essential for every Australian to be prepared, being prepared brings peace of mind.
DO YOU TRAVEL THROUGH RURAL AREAS?
Family travels may take you to a bushfire prone area. By keeping a woollen blanket in your car, you are taking an essential precaution during the warmer months, and keeping your family safe while visiting these areas.
Aside from assisting you in the case of a bushfire, personal protection blankets can also be used for warmth and protection in the case of a break down or car accident. Our blankets are strong enough to be used as a stretcher.
Keep a personal protection blanket in your home and car for peace of mind, knowing you can protect yourself and your family.
ABOUT OUR WOOL/ARAMID BLANKETS
Our blankets exceed the AS4824 standard for Wildland Fire fighting, recognised by Australian Fire Authorities.
The Wool Aramid DC blanket is used by CFA volunteers. It is classed as a multi use blanket; it is strong enough for multiple uses or to be used as a stretcher once it has already been through a fire. The R2 Wool Aramid blanket is carried by the RFS, Fire and Rescue NSW and QFRS. This is a single use blanket and should be disposed of once exposed to radiant heat or flame.
These blankets are proudly cut and finished in Creswick, Australia.
ARAMID – WHAT IS IT?
Aramid fibres are a class of high-density synthetic fibres. Aramid handles similarly to normal textile fibres, and is characterized by excellent resistance to heat. It is also extremely strong, with a higher tensile strength than spun steel. Aramid is used extensively in aerospace and military applications, and can be found in flame resistant and heat protective clothing, ballistic rated body armour, ropes and cables, as well as thermal and electrical insulation.
ARAMID DEMONSTRATES
- No melting point – degradation starts at 500 degrees Celsius
- Low flammability
- High tenacity
- Good resistance to abrasion
- Good resistance to organic solvents
- Non conductive
To increase your chances of survival in a car, CFA recommends to cover up with woollen blankets and get down below window level – this is your highest priority.
