Creswick Woollen Mills has a unique and proud history; we have led the way for woollen mills in Australia since our establishment in 1947.

Located in Creswick, approximately 120km outside Melbourne, we are one of the largest private employers in the region and the only coloured woollen spinning mill of our kind in Australia. Over 50 Australian mills of this type have closed in the face of competition from cheap imports in recent years, but Creswick remains, employing over 60 people directly and a further 80 indirectly across Victoria through its contractors and suppliers. Our products are made from natural fibres including merino wool, possum, alpaca, cashmere, cotton and bamboo, woven into sophisticated modern designs.

Throughout our history we have built a reputation for superior quality and innovation. We make products that are uniquely Australian – designed in Australia to suit Australian conditions.

When founder Paul Ryzowy purchased the old woollen mills in 1947, he soon caught the eye of textile merchants in Flinders Lane, who began purchasing Creswick fabrics for dresses and jackets. When the Olympics came to Melbourne in 1956, demand for Creswick fabrics skyrocketed for the athletes’ uniforms. In the following years, we continued to innovate, creating the classic Billabong picnic rug and supplying high-quality fabrics to fashion brands including Giovani and Sabina.

In the 2000’s, Creswick expanded from a woollen mills into the retail space, entering a prestigious partnership with David Jones and opening our first retail store at Creswick Woollen Mills. We now proudly operate nine retail stores in Victoria.

We have continued to lead the way in the woollen mills industry, creating fire-retardant blankets for the Country Fire Authority and NSW Rural Fire Service. In addition to this, we opened an interactive exhibit to educate and enthral visitors, winning us gold in the RACV Victorian Tourism Awards in the ‘Tourism Attraction’ category in 2016.

Creswick Woollen Mills has become a household name both in Australia and globally. We attribute our continued success to our passion for ongoing research and innovation, as well as our dedication to quality and an understanding that the Australian market appreciates exclusive designs and unbeatable quality.
